I love the wonderful community here. I’ve never been around so much positive feminine energy. I don’t know what I’d do without it now. The women here are amazing. Being around them helps ground me just as much as my dance does.

How long have you been pole dancing at Divine?
Almost two years now. It’s been a slow, but fun road.
Did you have any previous dance or fitness training before starting pole?
Absolutely none. Divine has helped me realize how good fitness can be. Thanks to Divine, I’ve lost 75 pounds. I’ve discovered I can pick myself up. Thanks to the beautiful inspiration here. I and my body are forever grateful.
What made you decide to take pole dancing classes?
A co-worker in Houston was taking pole classes and told me to try it. So I tried a studio there and had fun, but moved to Bellevue nearly 3 years ago and didn’t find Divine until almost a year later.
Favorite class? (spins, inversions, or boudoir), and why?
I’d have to say boudoir definitely. It challenges my mind as well as my body. I always feel like I’m being kept on my toes. Boudoir is necessary for my evolution. I love it.
Platforms or legwarmers?
Legwarmers all the way. I love the texture and being able to change them throughout the dance…sometimes failing to do so. The silky slide of fabric down my leg is amazing. I also love the challenge of climbing in them.
What are you currently working on technically?
Inversions are becoming my nemesis…but I’ll get them some day. There’s so much to focus on. And it takes so much strength…even though so many people make it appear effortless, it isn’t!
What are you working on artistically?
I’m currently in a rut. We all go through them. I’m simply working on finding my way to something new and exciting. I think the artistic side of our brains takes as much time to develop as our bodies. As we go through tremendous growth in strength and flexibility and then hit roadblocks, our artistic dance goes through much the same, it just isn’t as quantifiable.
Do you have a favorite song to pole dance to?
It changes weekly (or monthly depending). This week, I’m still stuck on Alt-J’s “Fitzpleasure”. Love the ups and downs of that song.
We LOVE music at Divine. What 3 songs would be featured on the soundtrack to YOUR life?
1. “Call me Maybe” – Carly Rae Jepsen
2. “Only if for a Night” – Florence + the Machine
3. “Everything” – Lifehouse
Guilty pleasure:
Coldstone ice cream. Once a week. Yum!
Final Question – Any inspirational advice you would like to share with new polers?
Just keep at it. No matter how awkward you feel, we have all been new just like you. Each one of us has our own unique dance/pole journey and we each hit different bumps in the road, but we all hit bumps. Just remember to have fun with it. The only person to please is yourself.
